The Souk al Had
Prior to the 1960 devastating earthquake, the souk, used to be in Talborjt, in the city center. Then, it moved to a large area next to the Industrial district, where various goods were exposed under tents once a week. A few years later, the authorities built a real market place:The souk el Had located nowadays near the industrial district. Souk el Had in Arabic means Sunday market.
The soukis now stretched on thirteen hectares (it is the largest market in Morocco), with walls up to six meters and with thirteen gates. It is closed every Monday to clean the place. There are 2000 retailers selling food, household appliances, and furniture but there are also a post office, a police station, a mosque and even some cafés and restaurants. Each shop in the same area sell the same products.
